2005 5.4 triton, knocking?

Hello all, I have a 2005 fx4 and just recently started knocking,(always has a little) always change the oil and use motorcraft 5-20. also tried some lucas but no better. It seemed to happen after the truck sat a while(two weeks) and I started it and it seemed to be missing then that cleared up but the knocking continues. could this be oil pump? it runs fine and pressure seems good what do you guys think? and does it just need a tune up? 156,000 miles

Have the plugs ever been changed? Use the Advance Search and check out "cam phasers", see if this sounds like it.

As Bluejay pointed out>>>cam phasers

Or it could be injector related>>> https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...ram-07m08.html

fuel filter should be changed about every 20,000 miles. that would not be the cause of the knocking, though. The transmission fluid and coolant need to be changed as well.

Hard to say, but I bet it is mechanical. The cam phasers most likely and some go bad regardless which oil you use.

The plugs should have been changed at about 65,000 to 80,000 miles.

It may not be the cam phasers but check out this thread.

Again, use the Search and do some reading.

There are lots of things that could be wrong. With that mileage i would suspect cam phaser or vct solenoids if it only knocks at low rpm less than 1500. If it continues even as you rev the motor i would suspect a lifter or the timing chain tensioners/guides. Mine had both the lifter and timing tensioner guides shot at 172k even though the motor was clean with no sludge. If the tensioners are shot you will here a bad rattle at startup for 3-10 seconds.
