I have a 1999 ford f150 W/ 5.4, Does anyone know where the location of the sensor is , Trust me its not anywhere on the intake manifold ? thanks

 

You don't have one.

 

It has a CHT sensor, not an ECT.

 

Thank You, I didn't think so. Is the CHT sensor at the front drivers side of the engine?

 

CHT is on inside, plenum level, of drivers side head. May be hard to see under the manifold, but will most likely be spotted when you see a wire loom running under the manifold.

i have a 99 expedition 5.4L the ECT (engine coolant temp.) sensor is shorted out and i need to change it .. my question is can anyone tell me where it's located ?? i have already changed the CHT (cylinder head temp.) sensor , all the books and people i have referred too all are dead ends .. (behind the alternator , in thermostat housing , and in driver head by the exhaust manifold ) all are dead ends .. can anyone help me find the sensor ??? dealer tells me they will locate it for $250 dollars and that's pathetic highway robbery .. do to the sensor telling ECU the engines cold it has increased my fuel consumption to raise the engine to its operating temp. a difference from 18/19 MPG to 9.2/9.7 MPG .. if it doesn't have an ECT then can u tell me how it read temp. and how to repair it .. please ..

 

I believe the 99 expys just have it plugged. Should have a bypass coolant line there, but no sensor. Your all CHT programming for the 5/four.

Tell me what DTC your getting. That will help mme help you lol- The CHT has it's own separate harness that can have problems.

 

i have replaced the CHT already yet , when i use the code reader it tells me the CHT has a eletrical prob. and the ECT is at high voltage .. mite you know anything i can do because with the present mileage and flooding issues i really cant afford the fuel in this matter ..

 

Please tell him the exact "P" codes...........

 

P1289 ---- CHT out of range-high input
P0128 ---- cooling temp. always low

coolants at limit , engine not overheating , and CHT sensor new

 

Check the CHT harness. They sever inside the insulation. IF your coolant temp is normal, then it's the circuit. Those harness wires weaken after 10 years and break all the time. You can't tell unless you continuity test the harness while moving it around.

 

well i disconnected the CHT from the harness and my temp. gauge still done the same thing .. shows its not the CHT sensor , does anyone have any ideas ??
PLEASE ..... i also check ohms on about 14 inches of the wires to the CHT all i could reach and no breaks ...
