On my 2011 I have a card and no keypad. I bought PN 9L3Z-1522405-AB per Tasca's direction and was told it was pretty much plug and play. Anyways I installed it today, it has power but doesn't do anything. How can I activate it? Maybe the card in my truck is wrong, but even hitting the 7.8 and 9.0 to lock doors doesn't work! Any ideas?

 

They will need to be programed, I used the IDS at work to program them, I think you can do it from the instrument cluster mode switch. Hope this helped.

Also, I don't have the fancy computer, just the standard deal that comes with the XLT not the convenience package

 

The dealer will probably have to program the computer (i.e. turn the keypad function on) to get the pad to work.

 

i had one on my 2004 F150 which I only used ocassionally. Had to carry my PW in my billfold haha... My new 2010 F150 also came with one and this one allows you to enter as many as five PW's i think it is so my wife and daughter also have their own pass numbers..

I use this all the time now... Very handy to have...

 

I wish Tasca had not said it was "plug and play" on the 2011. Said it would not have to be programmed at dealer.

 

Maybe you should make sure you are using the CORRECT KEYPAD number assigned by FORD. Did a SEARCH on GOOGLE and they say you can verify your KEYPAD NUMBER by removing the REAR UPPER part of the REAR SEAT and you should see a STICKER there with the number on it. I think the rear portion of the REAR SEAT has three tabs on the BOTTOM accesbile by lift up up the lower part of the SEATS. (There was a recent POST on here about doing this... If you are doing the FORD ASSIGNED NUMBER correctly it should work and you can add more numbers to use that you can remember. The ORIGINAL FORD NUMBER cannot be erased it says... ?? I know when I added my own assigned numbers I had to put FIVE NUMBERS in. I used ZEROs for the FIRST TWO NUMBERS than my SPECIAL three NUMBER SEQUENCE i.e if I wanted 123 to be my code it would have to go in as 00123 or
(9-0) (9-0) (1-2) (1-2) (3-4)

BTW I think I have seen my FORD ASSIGNED NUMBER on two or three parts of the PAPER WORK I got with my new 2010 including the CARD... Pretty sure it on the SNYC INFO SCREEN... Maybe on the SERIUS RADIO info screen as well...

I believe on the 2011's it is on the back of the SJB in the passenger kick panel. I pulled that off and looked down there to verify it was the same as the card with my owner's manual

 

Try this - Use your FOB to UNLOCK your truck - Then just after it UNLOCKS (withih 5 secs) hit the two last keys at same time on the KEY PAD... (7-8) (9-0)

Reading some of the entries on GOOGLE and one post said the KEY PAD has to be programmed at same time a KEY FOB is programmed... I know you're not reproramming your KEY FOB but that was the way they PROGRAMMED the KEY PAD after resetting their KEY FOB - Worth a try haha... There was something else they did as well They entered their ASSIGNED KEY PAD NUMBER and then held down the (7-8) (9-0) keys for a few seconds the truck horn honked once ??? Try that too...

ALSO DOES your KEY PAD lite up when you press any key - I guess it has a BATTERY inside it since it is a STICK ON THE DOOR item... I cant tell if mine lites up in the day time but it sure shows up good at nite... Since your truck didnt come up with a KEY PAD maybe there is FUSE required to be put in in either the inside fuse panel (passenger kick panel area) or under the hood... It probably uses the same RECEIVER MODULE the KEY FOB uses... I just recently discovered I had an inside fuse panel in my 2010. I thought the one under the hood was the only one I had...

 

This one isn't a stick on the door one. This is the one built in to the door handle unit. It has power and all that good stuff. Lights up when I press a button.

 

I can't help you, but I do have a question. How easy was it to install (aside from the programming issue)? Are the wires for power, etc, already there? My wife has the keypad on her car and I love it.

 

Easy. Took 15 mins roughly. Remove door panel, remove 3 nuts and wiggle the handle out

Thanks. I guess I should've worded that completely different. Is the power wiring, etc, all present for the keypad or did you need to run your own wires? If there is a whip and plug already, cool. If not, where did you wire to inside the truck?
