"clanking" noise when hitting medium + sized bumps

Today I was driving with my windows down and noticed a clanking noise coming from under my cab. So, I turned my stereo down could here it even better and determined that it only occurred when I hit a significant bump in the road (small pothole). I thought it was something to do with my spare tire. When I got home looked but it was nice and secure with no play. I thought maybe bumper or tailgate but both were fine. I looked under the truck, but couldn't climb under cause I was dressed for work, and couldn's anything metalic hanging loose. Any suggestions? Ps I have also noticed a rattle day to day while driving over bad streets.

Year truck? Please fill in the info section in your profile.

Could be ball joints. Do a quick search for threads.

How would I go about checking the ball joints or the body mounts?

Quick update: I after work I got on my rear bumper, and started jumping. At first there was no noticable noise but once I really got the back end moving up and down I heard what sounded like a bell when the truck would be at it's lowest point. I tried getting the front end to do the same but I didn't want to jump let alon stand on my front bumper.

My GF's car was doing that over bumps and it turned out one of the sway bar end links was gone.

Update: yesterday, I got under the truck while a friend jumped on the bumper. Turns out I have a broken left rear shock. Thanks for all the help everyone.
