Cylinder 3 misfire Coil pack issue
2007 F150, 5.4

I have a cylinder 3 misfire. Went to change the coil pack and the coil pack itself is very flimsy and does not want to seat properly. When I have it pushed all the way down it is probably 3/8" off of the place where it is bolted in. Is this normal?

When I pulled another coil pack it was seated a lot better.

You don't have coil packs.

Yea, packs run more than one cylinder, -a pack of them. You have dedicated coils, COP system = CoilOverPlug.

Thanks for the terminology answer. Can anyone help me with the answer to my question. The boot is really flimsy and doesnt seem to seat flush. Is it normal, and if not, is there a trick to get it seated properly?

Now your that much smarter. You use dielectric grease and with a twisting motion, install the coil.

I actually need to replace mine today too, same cylinder... Is it worth using anything but a motorcraft coil? I mean the parts store has "Master Pro" and "Accell", which are $30 cheaper.. Not a ton of money but that's half a tank of fuel, but will they last as long?

Does it seem normal to you that 2 parts meant to be bolted together are sitting 3/8" apart? The boot is probably folding in the plug well, not allowing it to seat properly.

Actually, that didnt solve the problem so I went ahead changed the plugs yesterday. I appreciate your info. Your comment is way off base and wrong and I dont appreciate that.

You should of told us you were changing the plugs, because in that case, you grease the ceramics so the boots don't buckle as easily and they seat well. We can't read your mind.

At the time when I started this thread I wasnt, changing the plugs, but since that didn't solve the problem, I went ahead and changed the plugs. All is well now. Truck is working great. Thanks
