A buddy told me that Fram oil filters are some of the worst? Any truth in this?

What do you guy's think are the best ones?

 

Most will recommend a motorcraft, as they are built very well and cheap. Yet, there are others that are built well, frams are not one of them. They have very poor reviews and faulty anti drain back systems on some models. Which can be catastrophic. So.. availability, price and durability.. can't beat the motorcraft for $14

Do a search on "the orange can of death" and you will see what your friend was talking about. I would take his advise, and thousands of others.

 

Can get them at WalMart for 1/3 that co$t.

OP - I run Motorcraft oil and filter in my truck.

 

Several years ago, there was an independent test of oil filters posted here and at FTW. Fram oil filters were far and away the worst performing. Even the no name department store filters performed better.

 

It not only matters what oil filter and oil you are using, it matters whos putting it in weither it is you or a technician. Some people are just plain morons when it comes to doing an oil change at the quick lube shops lol

Since we are talking about oil filters is there any oil additive which helps keep sludge out of the engine?? Example: I have heard that marvel mystery oil is great at removing sludge or other such deposits from the engine safely over time. If you have used anything like marvel, z max or the such I would like to hear about that in this thread as well.

Only run spec filters and valves with these engines , unless you know better. There's a crap load of bad replacement parts out there, that can be detrimental to engine life/longevity.

It's very very very -

Simple. ~ Motorcraft Oil Filer and PCV.

 

None of that is needed. Just change the oil before 7500 miles.

go with motorcraft filters and oil. no need to change brands

 

I run Mobil1 with a MotorCraft filter.

Fram = CRAPSHOOT DEATH TO YOUR MOTOR!

The best filters you can get are Amsoil EaO's and Mobil 1. Motorcraft is good and well proven if you want bang for the buck.
