Mine popped of a while ago. I did some thorough searching and the best idea anyone had was super glue it. It's one of those times when Ford is less than brilliant - they sell only the entire assembly when many of us just need the 25-cent plastic cap. Maybe you can go to a wresking yard and pop one off??
Good luck.
Good luck.

I glued mine back on about 5 times before throwing in the towel and buying a whole new assembly on e-bay for $50. The dealer charges about $85. There is a thread somewhere around here explaining how to change it. Look in the "how to" section. I will post a link if I find it.
So in order to replace the shifter handle . Slip the chrome bezel at the bottom of the handle down . That exposes the black plastic retainer , I pried it down from the handle itself with a screw driver . Now carefully slide the handle up and off the shifter lever . Pay attention that the spring in the top of the plastic part protruding from the shift lever IS IN PLACE . The spring was stuck in the handle when I pulled it off . Slide the new handle on the lever with spring in place , remove the red plastic button retainer from the new one . This is when I moved the gear selector to be sure it functions . Slide the black retainer back up , I pulled up with my fingers with my palms at the top of the handle until it popped into place . Line up the chrome bezel pop it back into place .
