Royal Purple ATF

It's about that time on my truck to give it a tranny flush. I want to change the fluid type to Royal purple, but I have heard some rumor that it is not good in ford trucks. I do some towing with my truck, but when I do its a heavy load, otherwise, it is just normal driving (with a lead foot I would add) So, what I am asking is it safe to put royal purple ATF in the transmission?

2007 FX2 F150, 5.4 V8, K&N cold air intake, more to come...

I'd recommend Amsoil instead.

Darrin Burch recommends Mobil 1.

The only place I use RP is in the differentials, in my opinion RP is overpriced even for the differential oil... I just use the valvoline ATF recommended by ford for my trans flush.

I just switched my engine oil and filter to Amsoil monday. I will be switching my trans fluid to Amsoil when I do my trans service next.

I run RP in my diffs and engine now and will soon be making the switch to RP in the tranny and transfer case as well. I think its all just matter of opinion, I don't think you can go wrong using Amsoil, Mobil 1, or any other quality brand.

thanks

Thanks for your opinions. I really believe rp is the best, abeit overpriced, but you get what you pay for. I never liked mobile one after I seen the royal purple salesman take a bottle of it off the shelf and put it to shame. Again thank you and keep the opinions coming!

I buy all my Royal Purple on Ebay. 5 gallon 5w-20, and quart-case Trans Fluid.

I flushed the Mercon V out two months ago, and did something like 18 quarts to refill...I've got a Mag-Hytec DD pan, and an auxiliary spin-on trans filter.

The truck already has a separator plate-but even so, it shifts better now, over the Mercon V.

The motor oil is the best I've ever used. I burn NO oil.

I also run RP in my motorcycles.

I'm pretty sold.

Royal purple is great oil, but I don't think it is worth the extra cash.

Royal Purple works fine in Ford. So does Red Line & Lucas Oil. Red Line has a "High Temperature" formulation that I like.

Which auxiliary filter do you have? Where did you install it?

I bought my filter from Dieselsite.com, although I don't see it listed there anymore. It uses a large spin-on, and its mounted up by the trans cooler.
Filters, but is also directly in-line to catch debris, should the trans blow up, from entering the torque converter.

It has a gauge that tells you when flow is restricted, and the filter needs to be changed-which has never happened.

Amsoil...nothing but in all applications. Their Severe Gear I arguably the absolute best you can get. Their ATF will perform flawlessly in your tranny.

How is it overpriced if it can go 6000k???

At 3000k you change the filter and add a quart!
