Transmission Service? How many quarts?
What exactly do I need for a trans. serv. on an 2005 F150 5.4.Do I need 14 qts of fluid (the entire refill capacity) or less, does it all get changed in a pan drop or does most of the fluid stay in being the torque converter doesnt have a drain plug. I know that I need a trans filter kit. Just wondering how much fluid for a pan drop service. Please advise. Thank You.

Approx 5-6 quarts, and always check the level as per the manual - add until it''s correct.

I usually do the procedure where you disconnect a line at the trans cooler after the pan is back on and pump out the remainder a few quarts at a time. Pump/fill and repeat. Gets you pretty close to 100% fluid change that way.

This is my 3rd F150 with the AOD/4R70W/4R75E type transmission.EVERY one of them that I have dropped the pan on and did a filter/fluid change only held 4 QUARTS of transmission fluid! The dipstick always reads less then half way into the cross hatched area!
I use AMSOIL trans fluid myself. When you drop the pan and change the filter it should be about 5-7 quarts mine took 7 I believe. If you can drain the converter (cant on my truck) You'll be close to 14 qts.
