switched power wire for Headunit

Does any one know what color the switched power lead is for the head unit? I want to tap into that and use it for a remote wire for my amp. I know i could add a fuse but if I already have access to the head unit for speaker connections why go through more work.

Are you talking about factory head unit or an aftermarket?

your '10 wont have switched at the headunit as it runs off a data system. Your best big is a cig lighter thats not constant or the accessory wire at the ignition harness.

This is for a 2008. I'm not sure what the difference is between an 08 and a '10, but hell it may help. See if theres a light green/yellow wire back there somewhere.

And, if you do end up having to tap into the fuse panel for a switched source, check this little bad boys out:

Have you seen a 2008 and a 2010? The trucks are completely different, and the changes arent just cosmetic, it carries over to the electronics too.

There is not one for a 2010 non nav. I just went through this a month ago. I tested every single wire going into the HU and not one of them was hot with the key on. So I tapped into a wire on the fuse box down on the passenger kick panel. Found one there and it works ok. Just doesn't play after you turn the key off like it used to.

Use an add a fuse in location 41. It is for ACC. I am using it for remote power on my 2010 and it still plays after truck off before door is opened.

Be warned that the side of the fuse box and cover have to be "Modified" for the add a fuse to work. Wire dikes worked well for me.

There should be a wire at the SJB that will allow for retained RAP for an aftermarket deck. Or you could just buy the correct CAN interface harness.

Is the location 41 on the fuse box at the kick panel on passenger side?

yes. Passenger kick fuse box. fuse 41. To make an add a fuse work you have to slightly modify the cover and side of the fuse box.

Now, if fuse 41 works then there must be a wire coming out of the fuse panel that is also hot with ACC. I read that the blue wire in the bundle coming out is hot until the door is open but I swear there were 5 or 6 blue wires in there. I didn't feel like probing and the add-a-fuse was easy.

Thanks, I am going to look that up. Is an add a fuse something you can buy or something you made to work? Not familar with that. But I would like my amps to stay on until the door is open if I could.
I appreciate you help.

The add a fuse can be purchased at Auto zone or pep boys for $7 to $10 dollars. I had to purchase a fuse for mine but it also came with a crimp already connected to the lead. It took all of about 10 minitues to install, cut the fuse panel lid and side of the box (use a pair of dikes, the plastic almost snaps off when you snip it) and run the remote wire. Much easier then the old days of getting to the back of the radio to install remote wire.
