Knocking /clunking sound when i apply the brakes

Hello everyone- I hope you have some ideas for my problem. When I step on the brakes, I hear a knock or a clunk coming from the front end. It doesn't happen each time though. Any ideas what may be causing this? A bad bushing perhaps? Thanks.

If i had to take a guess, it sounds like its coming from the front end. I'll ask my friend to stand outside the truck and listen for the location.

Is it only while you are driving? Moving forward?

Yes. I only hear it when i'm moving forward and applying the brakes, although not everytime i hit the brakes. It doesn't make any sound when the brakes are not applied.

Hey Bob, any luck? Not trying to hijack this thread, but I put new brakes on the front and a couple weeks later started to notice a clunking/rattling up front whenever I hit a bump. Took me a couple weeks to realize I don't hear it when applying the brakes. Also, when I apply the brake, I hear one clunk/ rattle coming from the same area. Sounds like it's coming from the wheels. I think we have a similar problem. Mine is driving me nuts.

Anyone have any ideas?

I haven't had a chance to check the problem yet- too busy with work and school. Hopefully in the next two weeks, i'll have time.

I found the cause of the clunking and knocking noise- Bad, right upper ball joint, loose right brake mounting bracket caliper, and loose left lower control arm.

Is this a clunk or does it sound more like a your dragging a logging chain?

Not really sure. Might want to make sure there is not a loose caliper.

Well turns out it WAS the caliper. Found out the hard way.... Went out to hit a few trails sunday afternoon and was suddenly cut short when the front passenger caliper lost the bottom screw causing the caliper to swing out and lock up the wheel.... i was s******* bricks at first thinking maybe i had busted a hub or something... Well thanks for the help Derrick!
