Shifter cap broken - replaceable??

The small chrome plastic cap on the floor shifter (automatic transmission/flow thru console)of my 06 Lariat has broken off. Appears it snaps into place held there by three small prongs and two of mine have broken off.

I've searched Y2kFord's online catalogs but can't find that part. Anyone got a PN or know if it can be purchased separately or is it part of a larger assembly?

Mine came off over a year ago and I was told you couldnt buy just the cap but had to replace the entire shifter assembly. I just used a little super glue and its good as new.

Mine is doing the same thing so I did the same thing to temporarly fix it. Keep me updated on what you find out. I even considered a aftermarket shifter handle if I can find one that will work and doesn't look "ricer"

we have that little ring break on our customers cars at work, and we just remove it. Ill see if i can order just the ring for the Land Rover shifter and see if it fits the floor shifter ive got from an F150

Its going on nearly five years and I am still surprised that there are no aftermarket options for the shifter handle. Am I missing something here...maybe someone can post pics of what Mark LT shifter but I would think there would be a few aftermarket companies cleaning up with some kind of replacement.

ok nevermind you're talking about the cap on the top of the shifter.

At work we have a small chrome ring on the bottom of the shifter that always comes off. So naturally i was visualizing this and not the ford one

Where did you get the matching wood grain cover for the console (sorry not a hijack attempt)? I see there is additional trim around it, is it one of those full blown kits or can you get separate pieces?

MDHawkin - The wood grain around the shifter is part of an entire dash kit. Can't buy just the one piece. Google and you'll find several options - chrome, woodgrain, carbon fiber, and on and on. Or search here for Lariat dashboard kits or Lariat wood replacement and you'll find several threads and lots o pics. If memory serves the kits run around $200 and some come with 30-40 different pieces.

Yes, Patman, I'm talking about the little chrome on plastic cap. At least I know now I'm not alone. Guess I could glue it back on but then if you needed to get into that assembly at some time, you'd have to break it off. It would be just like Ford to require us to buy a $250 assembly to get a .50¢ piece of plastic.

I'll keep searching a while before I dig out the gorilla glue.

Well that didn't take long ---

A Google search turned up multiple threads from this and other F150 forums about this problem. Apparently it is a chronic problem on the 04-08s. No one seems to have found an answer - Ford does not sell the part individually, you apparently have to buy the entire shifter ****.

The most popular suggestions are super glue, gorilla glue, or something called Welder from Wally World. In other words, glue it back on. Some say they've had to do it over and over.

There is a complete shifter assembly on ebay at the moment that exactly matches my 06 Lariat (it was pulled from same) for $65 opening bid. I'll go $5 for the cap if anyone else needs the rest of the assembly for $60

Now where did I put that gorilla glue?

OH - forgot to mention some did say they swapped out for the Mark LT shifter - up for doing another mod Patman?

Shifter ****

My shifter **** came off also and just like the others used epoxy to reattach. Numerous searches found nothing except used complete shifter assemblies on ebay. Unbelievable that after 6 years, theres still no aftermarket replacements for these console shifters.

Thanks guys, that is the piece I am most interested in, maybe a few other pieces but I think the whole kit is overkill.
