how do you remove the drums off of a 98 ford f-150

I am trying to replace the brake pads, but I can't get the drums off. The auto parts store says it should just pull right off, but it doesn't. Anyone know how? 98 ford f150

This thread is in our Articles and How To section. There are other threads on brakes as well as many other subjects you might find helpful. When you get a chance look over the index. They are probably just rusted on.

Check to see if there are screws on the face of the drum holding it to the axle. If not then the only thing that is holding the drums on are the pads themselves. You may have to go in through the back of the brake backing plate and turn the tension wheel to lessen the pad pressure on the inside if the drums. Look for a little removable rubber piece to access the tensioner wheel.
You may even have to take a hammer and tap the back edge of the drum to persuade it to move.
Also, I'm assuming the parking brake is not on.

Ok, not disks, sorry about that. About the only way I have ever suceeded is to sqirt Liquid Wrench or some other solvent around the hub and then hit it with a sledge hammer. You have to break the bond of the rust.

Just to clarify, if you have drums, you have brake shoes, not pads.
