Life expectancy
hey guys. i have 180,000 absolutely trouble free miles on my truck and i'm just started college so im driving about 60 miles a day since i'm commuting right now. my mom doesnt think my truck will last much longer, but my dad and i dont see why it wouldnt. I know it's very subjective but what would be a reasonable amount of life left in it? I do all the regular maintenance, don't drive it like a dog, all that good stuff. I just dont want to put money into a lift and another $1000 in tires if i should just save it for my next truck.
Thanks guys

Reminds me of something my ex said, "your truck is going to crap out on you within the next year I think." While we were talkin about vehicles. uhh ok? lol Bottom line is you make a vehicle how it fits best to what you use it for and the way you like it. If you take care of it yeah it will have problems from time to time but if you get it repaired its gonna go a long while. My mother has an explorer that she has fixed many times and it has over 300k on it. It has never quit while she was far away from home and she really likes it even though its rough around the edges. Fact of the matter is say worst case scenario the transmission craps out. Are you gonna buy another transmission say 1000-2000 dollars and continue to drive it cause you like it and have it tweaked the way you want it already or are you gonna buy a brand new vehicle for 5 to 20 thousand dollars that you're gonna put a lot more money into cause God knows we hate everything stock? Its all in your perspective. Of course its not gonna last forever but you get my point.

my truck has ~205K miles and I drive to class everyday and for work I use her as a delivery vehicle. I average ~100 city miles a day and its fine. just keep up on your maintenance and watch the liquids

If your mom doesnt think your truck will last much longer, then have her buy you a newer one. These trucks will run on 300,000+ miles if all maintenance is done accordingly. My dads landscape/maintenance company has mostly F250 diesels, but still has 3 F150s running. 2 97s and a 98. 2 of them are the 4.6 and one is the 4.2. They all have over 320,000 miles and only have needed brakes, and some paint is flaking off. The trucks are driven HARD by the laborers. They never come to a complete spot when switching from reverse to drive, so you would think that the trannys would be toasted, but with the oil changed every 3k and all fluids changed accordingly, theres no reason why yours shouldnt make it that far.

These trucks and these motors are a hell of a lot tougher than most people give them credit for. the motor in mine came out of an old mans farm truck that he rolled...it had 210 on it when I bought it...he sold it to me for 300 cause he didn't think it had much life left in it....little did he know lmao (evil laugh) It purrs like a kitten and screams like a raped ape when I want her to....quiet as a mouse. I'll put it this way...after putting this truck together with that motor....it converted me back to ford....I was a chevy man

190,000 miles and running strong. pulling trailers that wiegh anywhere from 6000lb to 10000 lb about 3 times a week. changed the oil every 5000 miles, never touched the transmission, only changed the plugs and cop once and that was 1 months ago (thanks global). its one of my Daily drivers and I drive it to college which is an eighty mile round trip 4 times a week, and run it like a dog.
In short, there stout trucks, mine is sound. funny thing is though that my dad bought a new chevy in 2000 put only highway miles on it, had it serviced every 3000 miles, and 4 mounths ago he lost the motor at 210000 miles. I guess some vehicles are made better then others.
