Fixed my Codes P0171, and P0174
probably not for everybody but this fixed mine.
reach in deep.
my fingers are on it!
grab this!
with the motor running you'll be able to feel the suction coming thru this crack.
replace the rubber tube piece with part from dealer or what i did is found some heater hose that was the same internal diameter and cut it a little bit longer (because the heater hose is stiffer it's harder to fit) and install.
heater hose has only been on about a month and it's doing fine, when/if it does fail I'll update.

What year is your truck?
My Mom has a 98' with the 4.2 V6 and it is giving these same codes. Saying that "Bank 1 is lean". I couldn't find that hose you have there, but I know where to start looking now. Thanks.
Did your truck run like crap, wanting to stall and everything before you fixed the problem? Thanks for all your help!!

P0171 bank 1 and P0174 bank 2
So you have to remove the intake manafold to reach the pvc line? I was told that that code means cracked manfold. I have been having the same code pop up for some years know and I have heard alot of diffent solliutions. I know I have replaced the o2 sensor twice in 7 years. I have an 2003 f-50 stx 4.2. What about the exahust like the other guy was talking about?

Still going without any CEL or any other problems. no, didn't have to pull anything except the tube and end fittings that i'm hold in the picture.
and yea, their are a whole bunch of reason that this code could come up. this time it was a quick easy fix. just about any of the vacuum hoses that have anything to do with fuel or exhaust can cause those 2 codes. o2 sensor in my opinion would be last to check if throwing both codes, both sensors are not likely to go out at the same time.

Swine: I think I found my problem on my Mom's truck. After replacing the PCV valve and checking hoses, I finally found what you had replaced. It is on the very back, passenger side, of the intake manifold. The hose was literally ripped in two. There was no crack to speak of. LOL I replaced the hose and used a 90 degree elbow to make it easier to install. Thanks for the tips on this. Hopefully this will take care of that pesky P0171 and P0174 code.

I think I spoke too soon gang. After driving about 45-50 miles round trip with no problem. I stop at Wal Mart to get some things, when I get ready to leave the CEL came back on. The idle started acting up some while at the stop light too. It ran smooth and then started idling crazy. I actually had to put the truck in neutral so it wouldn't die. I will have to check the vacuum lines again and see something didn't come unplugged. Can't do it tonight...damn mosquitoes are too bad.
