My truck sputtered and then shut of and now it will not start.

I was driving down the road and my truck turned off. I had plenty of gas. Changed tanks and still wont start. Replaced the fuel filter and then unhooked the line and turned the engine over and the fuel pump is pumping gas out like it should be. Not sure what to do now.

 

That's not a lot to go on- it just quit running. You may have an OBDII system in the truck and most parts houses have scanners that will read any codes. They actually put the OBDII system in the 1995 1/2 YM F150. If you have the old OBD system you'll have to find a scanner for it. They're generally pretty cheap on fleabay. But to give you an idea of what's wrong would be a broad guess at best. Check all wiring and all vacuum lines. Look for anything burnt. It could be as simple as a wire came loose. Check the coil wire and plug wires too.

What engine and transmission? How many miles on it and what is its maintenance history? Have you checked for spark?

 

5.0, not sure of transmisson, 184xxx miles, will check spark when i stops ranning

 

You don't know whether you have an automatic or manual?

no spark and its giving me a bad egr valve code. Could a bad egr valve make the truck shut off and not start?

No spark? That's a problem in the ignition system. A bad EGR won't cause that. First suspect would probably be the ignition module.

 

Where is that located on the truck?
