My 2000 F150 is having headlight issues.

First i came out of the super market and my parking/tail lights lights were on even though i had the switch off and my headlights would not come on. I pulled the fuse so the battery would not die.

I thought it had a bad headlight switch so i changed it. Nothing changed still my headlights would not work and my parking/tail lights were stuck on.

So now i changed the multi function switch and my parking/tail lights go on and off with the head light switch but still no head lights.

Once i changed the multi function switch i went to test it by starting the truck up but all the idiot lights lit up on the cluster and my speedodometer had all dashes and the fuse relay is clicking and guess what it wont start.

Any ideas? I need help.

Yes we have but i park in a garage

 

it is my fuel pump relay that is clicking. Any ideas?

 

IF the Fuel pump relay is clicking, you can try swapping it with one of the trailer tow adapter relays.

This could be the no start issue, as well as the odometer issue.

The headlamps not working, had to be a different item, if the headlamp switch is in the off position, and your truck has not been in the rain.

double check, but I think the trailer tow adapter battery charge relay is the same size relay.

When you turn the key to the run position ( no need to try to start ) do BJB ( aka Battery Junction Box , Engine Compartment Fuse Panel ) fuses 23 & 18 have power on both sides ( check with a meter to the pin on the back on both fuses ) ?

 

Key on 23 yes 18 no. But turn the headlight switch on and 18 does

 

Could i have damaged some thing in the column? My theft light is blinking along with the relay clicking

 

Are you sure you are in the BJB ( aka Battery Junction Box , Engine Compartment Fuse Panel ) ?

Fuse #23 & # 18 are powered directly from the PCM power relay, which uses BJB Fuse #2 to power the normally open contacts.

BJB #18 feeds :
- MAFS
- 2 inputs to the PCM
- IAC valve
- The Fuel injectors
- The Fuel pump relay coil ( normally open contacts to power the fuel pump is fuse #10 )

Did you do anything in the column aside from the MFs ?

I guess you could have damaged the PATS transceiver module ?

Best to confirm the fuses above are the correct ones, as if BJB Fuse # 18 does not have power on both sides like BJB #23, there is something very wrong.

 

Sscully, thank you for the help. I have been pulling the fuses cause my parking/tail lights were staying on. In a rush to test the switch i pulled 18! I dont know why. I must have thought it was a spare and put it 6. What a mess up.

When you said test 18 and 23 i thought you meant dash fuse panel.

Anyway it fires right up with a fuse in there. But still no headlights. Any ideas?

 

Are the symptoms still the same, parking lamps are always on, headlamps do not work ?

When you pulled BJB Fuse #6, did they go out ?

 

Yes still parking lights/tail lights are stuck on and no head lights.

When six is pulled they go out.

 

If you pull that fuse and they go out, I would say the problem is with the main headlamp switch.

Pull and test the main headlamp switch



Pins #11 & #12 seems to be closed all the time, or there is a problem with the wiring behind the dash.

Start with pulling the switch, and install Fuse #6, see if they are on still. If not test the switch.
