Where is the fill plug on the rear differential on a 2wd 2000 F150 H9 rear end?I see the vent hose at the top but no fill plug.If there is no fill plug how do yiu fill it?

 

should be on the driver side closer to the pinion, at the back of the center section.

takes a 3/8" ratchet or similar to unscrew. those things can be pretty tough to get off too.

 

I've got an '04, but maybe yours is in the same place.

It's on the front side of the diff (pumpkin). On the driver's side. So, if you're looking for it from the back of the truck, you won't see it.

 

For the first time removal of the fill plug, a 3/8" breaker bar should make it much easier. After the first time, a regular 3/8" socket wrench should work just fine.

Tip.......before you remove the differential cover, always make sure you can remove fill plug first. May just save you a few choice words.

 

You've got to remove the cover to drain the differential. Go get a new cover. Get one with a drain plug and a fill plug. Some even have dipsticks and gaskets.

 

just wondering why you would recommend this. how often do you change your diff oil? i really don't see myself having to do it again, so i kept the stock cover.

 

Where can I get a rear differential cover for my 2000 F150 that has a fill plug and drain plug.

It is a 12 bolt 3.55 limited slip differential. The tag code on the pumpkin reads: S919D L55 975 9K30

If you had a dipstick & checked the fluid regularly, you may want to change that fluid more often. Sometimes water gets in there. Especially if you do a lot of off roading, or back the truck down boat ramps.
