2006 F-150 Transmission problems

I have a 2006 ford f150. Not sure which automatic transmission I have. It'll go in gear and drive for 30 seconds, then i have to shut down for a couple minutes. When i start it back up it drives fine for another 30secs...etc....

I would appreciate any help on this.

Exactly what happens after 30 seconds? What is the trans code on your door jamb sticker?

no info about tranny anywhere. I looked on doors, under hood, on tranny. It's just a basic model 3 speed with od. (would a vin search give me this info?)

After 30 seconds, it's like it slowly slips into neutral (rpm's gradually go up to keep same speed on level road). I thought i heard some whining after I put it in park and shut off engine. After shutting down for 2-3 mins I start it again and it rides fine for 30 secs.
I did this about 8 times to make it home. It's staying parked til i finnd out whats wrong.

There is a sticker on the driver's door jamb that has the VIN and all kinds of other stuff on it. At the bottom of the sticker, look for TRANS. There will be a single letter under it, that's your transmission code.

What engine does it have? I assume you have checked the transmission fluid. Is the fluid clean and does not smell burnt? When was the last time the fluid was changed? Does the OD light in the shift **** blink?

2006 f-150 v6 4.2L tranny code t0859/ fluid is ok (full and clean) had it changed 6 mos ago and the od light does blink on and off after the 30 secs. I've also been living in fort worth for the last month, roads are extremely bumpy. I checked as many electrical connectors as I could find to see if any were jarred lose but everything looks fine.

If the OD light is blinking, there will be DTC's stored in the computer. Take it to a shop that has a scanner that can read Ford-specific transmission DTC's. Without those codes, all anyone can do is make wildass guesses. That's what the diagnostic system is for.

Note - the scanners that Autozone and other parts stores use for free scans can't read tranny codes.

If you have a V-6, it should be a 4R70E.
