cruise control switch

I found out why my cruise was not working-its the switch at the master cylinder. What I want to know is to replace it do I have to bleed the brakes since I will be opening a part of the M/C to replace the switch.

There is a Schraeder valve under the SCDS.

Any luck with this fix? I have the same problem with my 2002 F-150, went to the local Ford dealer to buy the part and he didn't have any in stock, and said that Ford has discontinued it.

He sold me a part for the Winstar for $13 dollars thinking it would work. It looks like it will probably fit, but it comes with it's own wiring harness that I'd have to use that would replace the harness with the inline fuse. I'm a little apprehensive about removing the fuse from this system.

Anyone know where to look online for the original part, or a part #?

Might want to check with one of the online Ford dealers that sell parts.

The part for the recall has newer revisions, so it sounds like your local dealer is looking up the part number for an older revision of the recall harness, or the factory one.

The recall is 05S28. Description: Speed Control Deactivation Switch

Was this already done ?

at the time of my recall Jan of 2007 it was fine but I can see brake fluid inside the contacts of the switch when I take the harness off. As far as getting the switch a lot of pepole want me to buy the whole dang harness WITH the switch but all I NEED is just the switch!!I have tried a few of my local stealerships and and they all seem to carry the part for the F-150.

The correct part number for the switch alone for the 02 F150 is 1L1Z-9F924-AA. You will likely get the harness with it. if you don't need it, throw it a way or save it for the future.

Check the part number of what you got.

Ok, have a boost in confidence in myself, not so much for my local stealership though.

I went to an online shop (from an ad on the forum) and did a search for the cruise control switch. The search turned up the part that I was sold today. Another search determined that this is indeed the replacement switch for the faulty one originally installed. So the dealership must have been looking up the part number for the old switch.

Anyhow, took me all of 4 minutes to yank the old switch and install the new with the new wire harness (the recall installed harness does not fit on the new switch) and i have cruise control again.

So i really hope that this new style switch has the problem with the leaky seal fixed. I read on another forum that this new harness may have a fusible link as well, so hopefully no fires in my future.
