Console shifter ****

My Fx4 has the console shifter . The little chrome top is broke from the handle . So now after a visit from the dealership I have a shifter handle with button and chrome top to replace . Is there anyone out there in the same dilemma ? I cannot figure out how to take the old handle off . And working out of town with limited tools is no help .

I know I'm not the only one with a missing chrome cap . There was a guy at my job who locked his keys in his lariet , missing his chrome cap .

I had the same problem. Do you still have the chrome piece that goes on top? I just super glued it on and it has been good for at least a year now. If anything just take the piece off the new shifter and super glue it on the original shifter.

I would imagine you need to pull out the button and there would be a single screw under there that takes a T-15 torx bit. That's how mine is, but the 07-08's are different from the 04-06 handles.

Yeah my girlfriend suggested the same thing . I should have listened to her , I pride the chrome button off of the button itself . so I have a mess on my hands . My truck is indeed a 2005 . So I'm gonna look for a screw there .

I did'nt see a torx screw behind , under ,or near the button . There are a few torx screws on the side of the assembly uner the console cover .
Grrrrrrrr I should have listened to her , and super glued it .

Woo Hoo ! Ask Ford came through for me for ten bucks it is worth it at the time .
So in order to replace the shifter handle . Slip the chrome bezel at the bottom of the handle down . That exposes the black plastic retainer , I pried it down from the handle itself with a screw driver . Now carefully slide the handle up and off the shifter lever . Pay attention that the spring in the top of the plastic part protruding from the shift lever IS IN PLACE . The spring was stuck in the handle when I pulled it off . Slide the new handle on the lever with spring in place , remove the red plastic button retainer from the new one . This is when I moved the gear selecter to be sure it functions . Slide the black retainer back up , I pulled up with my fingers with my palms at the top of the handle until it popped into place . Line up the chrome bezel pop it back into place .
