i was cleaning my rims today after a couple of weeks of having dirt and brake dust build up on them and i noticed that there is tar on my back right rim. Their is a spot of it on the black painted part and also on the brushed aluminum lip. i tried using a small razor to get under it but it ended up just leaving small scratches on the lip bad idea. any of you guys have an idea on how to get it off? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Brake cleaner and a rag will do the job.

WD-40 or any oil based product.You want to be careful with harsh cleaners cuz they can eat clear coat. Baby oil even works.

 

im just going to use every product that you guys mentioned and hopefully it will work. would i have to just use a rag and wipe it off? or will i have to pick at it? because it seems like it's been on there for a while.

 

Varsol and a rag. rub it back and forth gently until it is gone. It works fast and it will only remove the tar and any wax you have on your wheels, not paint or clear coat.

WD-40 works well too because it has solvent in it. Which brings me back to just using Varsol.

 

I haul asphalt for a living, we use diesel to keep that stuff from sticking.

I am a roofer, and get asphalt products and asphalt on the truck all of the time. I use Orange supreme in a spray can. Does a great job.
