Mercon V vs Mercon LV
I searched but didn't come up with anything comparing these two.

On the above link, Amsoil has Universal Synthetic Trans fluid (Mercon V) but also has Fuel efficient ATF (Mercon LV)
truck: 2003 F150 5.4L 2v FX4 Lariat 3.73 LS gears Auto trans
1) Can I use the Fuel efficient ATF in my trans?
2) IF I can, how much could it help out??
I know a lot of you have at least looked if not posted in my "MPG Update" thread in the V8 section. As you already know I'm trying to make my truck as fuel efficient as possible.
What is the difference between these two fluids? Be as technical as you can be--I like to learn

You want the Amsoil Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid. The other product is if your tranny requires Mercon LV, which is a low viscosity fluid. I don't know the technical differences and since it's not compatible, have no reason to look any further.
I just had my tranny flushed with the Amsoil synthetic universal ATF and noticed a difference (acceleration and shifts were firmer). Didn't do anything for fuel efficiency but unless there's a problem with the tranny, changing the fluid should not make a big difference or have a noticable impact on MPG. Also, Amsoil ATF is rated for 100k miles under normal service conditions so you can go about 2 to 3 times longer in between fluid changes as regular ATF (depending on your belief how long regular ATF lasts!).

hmmm, I don't know what the difference is especially since it says Ford is using it in later models...but for safety's sake I'll stay with the Synthetic Universal.
AZ----I would almost bet you the title to my truck that it probably has NEVER been changed.(the joys of being the 3rd owner) And I have 138K on her, She may have been changed once...but I highly doubt it. It drives and shifts great though---DirtySCREW

Here are the recommended Amsoil uses:
Mercon V: Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
This is all 4R70/4R75/4R100 applications through 2008.
Mercon SP: Low Viscosity Synthetic ATF (ATL)
This is for the 5R110 (TorqShift) through 2008.
Mercon LV: Low Viscosity Synthetic ATF (ATL)
This is for ALL 2009+ transmissions - 4R70/4R75/6R80/5R110.
Being that Mercon LV is not compatible with Mercon V, I would not advise you put it in your transmission. I don't know what would happen, but even in your quest for that extra 0.01 mpg, I wouldn't chance it.
