Exclamation Good boost bad slip =(

So Carls new V-1 rebuild sounds great and kicks in much earlier then a stock v-1 would but the dam Gates belt sucks ***. It slips real bad in the higher range. The first night I took the truck out with a new gates belt before it slipped I saw 11psi at 4500 rpm then bam it slipped. I ordered a gator back from summit just waiting on it and a 2.50 pulley from Carl at 928motorsports. Im going to be making a video of it on youtube soon. It sounds even better than the superpowerdyne Carl did for me, and brings the boost in a hell of a lot earlier and harder than the BD-11 did. I ripped up a SS trail blazer pretty bad today LOL but the slip has to stop. I have new pulleys all the way round with a 7in crank a 2.62 blower all the idler pulleys are new from vortech the only thing that is old is the automatic tensioner and it looks to be in good working order there all 8 rib Im currently using the gates #micro-V AT 25-080790 a 8 rib 79 in belt and I will be going to a 2.50 pulley and a goodyear gatorback#4080790 and hope for better grip. Any ideas as to better grip would be great guys Thanks John

I had much better luck with my vortech setup using Gates belts then gator backs.

How does your belt wrap look around the blower pulley? A 2.5" pulley is going to give you slip unless it has some good wrap.

You can add an extra pulley. See derrick929's photo, post #6.

That is pretty good wrap, the the gaterback doesn't work you might have to try and add one more pulley.

Or you can try and get rid of the spring tensioner and go to a manual crank one.

maybe ask riechard racing if they offer a non slip pulley for your application

plus there's always the option of going cogged

I thought about going cog ,but im not even sure there is aftermarket support for my application??? Cog has to be the win all set up for all blowers as far as slip goes ive seen them in action before. the only down side is the sound but how cares when you already have a load whistle coming from under the hood anyway LOL

I'm working on a cog set up that can use interchangable crank pulleys

RPM outlet (yes I know) is offering the motoblue cogged drive's for the eaton charged trucks and it can be adapted to the centrufigal trucks

John,
I'm working on the pulley setup on mine too. The wrap pic above is mine.
I'm actually working on a new setup. Call ASP racing, get them to recess the water pump pulley for you and you can add a larger crank pulley.
They already have the design for the crank pulley, I've talked to them and they can custom make any size.
You'll have to move the water pump pulley back to clear it but it will work. I have a custom water pump pulley on mine now from them, waiting to see how big of a crank pulley i can install then I'll be able to increase the supercharger pulley and eliminate the slip.

Call ASP and they will hook you up. Just have them more or less notch the water pump pulley so it immediately turns back and then increases to the proper size right where the belt rides.
Get the bigger crank pulley and your done.

Think the guy's name is Lee....he is good. He made a water pump pulley for me so he will have it on file. I'm sure he can look it up under my name(PM me if you need info), it was $110, but it allows to make the crank pulley bigger(which was like $250). He has the crank pulley stored on file too, I've already talked to him about that. Just havent' measured mine to order one yet. The bigger the better, allows the smallest one you can fit on top and you can use the cheap pulleys, not the expensive Reichard like I have now.

Basically where our pulley has a flat face, mine is notched. It has the mounting flange then immediately turns and goes back then turns and goes up to full size only where the belt rides. this gives the clearance for the crank to be enlarged without the two hitting.
Thats your best bet to stop the slip.
I'm running a 2.5 Reichard pulley now which isn't bad, but it still slips a little. I still have the belt powder around the supercharger
