Hi jbrew,

I'm not sure what you mean by a scoop, it is the ram air type hood with the openings. Do you think water getting in the air openings could have caused them to fail? Here's a photo:

Thanks

Man they make nice hoods don't they. Hood scoops are attached to the hood or integrated, there's quite a few who run them on this site, but it looks like yours is one piece, but that's what I was thinking since you had 5 AND 7 go out, somehow water may be finding it's way in, unless you washed the motor.

They usually don't go out in pairs, unless moisture compromised. A coolant leak is common problem, but not on that side of the engine. 5 and 7 at the same time (drivers side) hasn't happened before from what I recall. So yea, I'd make sure the hood is sealed above the drivers side.

It may be the hood seal in the back by the firewall. A stick or whatnot may have jammed in their and creased the seal. Water travels.

Something to check out anyway

BTW- Check your inner fender-well. There's one or two rubber sections down by the frame just push tabbed into the hard plastic wheel well. They can fall out allowing water to mist that side of the motor. Mine disappeared , had to make new ones.

Good luck man.

Hi John,

Thanks for the compliment man.
I ordered it new from the factory, and when it was new, I was really into modding it, detailing it, the whole nine yards.

I don't drive it much these days other than to pull my camper in the summer, or when the snow gets real bad during the winter and I need 4x4.
The rest of the time it just sits in the garage.

I bought myself a beater last year (2000 Impala) as a daily driver.
It sure is nice not having to put in $100 in the gas tank every 5 days.

Here's a few more pics of the truck.

Regards

jbrew,

Thanks a lot for your comments, I emailed them to my mechanic.
Maybe after reading what you wrote he will help me with a solution.
I'm wondering if the combination of the Airforce 1 (open air intake) and the Cervini hood is contributing to the water coming in through the fender wall, and then into the engine?

It causes me some concern because of how strict I've been with maintenance.
Anyway, all is well now and I'm headed in the right direction.
Thanks a lot for your help.
