Sometimes my 44 mag or 45 colt.

30-06 normally.

I haven't hunted in years though.

Sounds like you already have 1 'deer slayer'

You might want a close range/high power rifle for maybe hunting in thick woods. I have a Marlin .45-70 on order right now. It's the new 1895 SBL.

The Marlin 45-70 will be the next gun in my collection after I get my AR-15 built.

A 30-30 or a 45-70 would be a good choice for a brush gun to use and it all depends what you are hunting at the time. The 30-30 is a good deer gun and the 45-70 can be used for deer and heavier animals like bear and moose.

I use a Ruger M77 300 win mag. with a simmons scope.

I bought it that way.

why do you want a new deer gun when you have a 30.06?

Just cause.....Is a perfectly good answer to that question if that's the case.

Really though the 30.06 is probably the most versatile high powered rifle ever.
