A year - That would have toasted mine by now, way to much moisture contamination and CC constipation. Plugged pcv systems/ smoked iac's/ fried rings and head gaskets. No thanks.

 

Well, it doesn't sit for very long periods of time. I usually drive it to work one day (bi-weekly) if I find I haven't driven it for a while, which is mostly in the winter. It usually gets driven every weekend in the warm months when towing the boat to the ramp, which is right down the street so not many miles there. Anyway, I think 6 month intervals should do. Thanks for all the input and sorry for the thread hi-jack.

 

Just remember - short trips are a killer and add up.

Mileage is never the problem in my vehicles but if it were, I would change once a year.

FWIW, Amsoil recommends once a year (or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first). I'm not proposing that mileage in this thread, but what ever your chosen mileage is, it should he that or 1 year...which ever comes first.

I also use this rule regardless of oil brand, weight, construction, or filter.

 

You should of seen the face of my boss when I worked part time at Avis lube and he asked me how long, I said if been almost 2 years He said I wasn't going to be pushing any services to the customers.

Got over 250,000 mile on that 302 and one of these days it going in my Falcon with a 5 speed

Thanks for all the input. I guess I should have added that when I do drive my truck it's usually for 20 min or more, but it often will go several weeks w/o being driven (I'm fortunate to have a F150 7700 work-supplied vehicle). My thought was to dump the oil every 6 months regardless of the miles, but I was curious what others opinions might be.

Ahhhhhhh, you guys caught me!! I use the best oil money can buy but I feel filters are not near as important, thus I use Fram filters LOL....NOT.

 

Thats alot compared to me! I've had my truck for 3 1/2 years and have only put 22k on it! It was nice in HS to go almost an entire month without having to fill up my truck since school was just over a mile away.


I've always been told and go by 3000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

 

I go every 3,000 miles or 3 months, and I've been getting roughly 3,000 miles every 3 months so it works out just right for me.

 

You guys are crazy. You guys know it's '09 not '79 right? There's absolutely zero good that comes from that schedule. That often accomplishes nothing. Oh wait, yes there is, two things...ruining the environment and putting money in someone elses pocket.N it's not even **** preventative maintenance.

 

Ruining the environment ??? How ? My oil has been spent in under 2000 miles. I'm not ruining my engine, that's for sure or the environment. It depends on how you use your engine and the contaminates that USUALLY burn off, don't have a chance to.

 

Its still oil that ha. To be disposed of. Not a tree hugger, just a fact. I also never said it hurts the engine, who would. I'm just saying it's wasteful. Oil spent in 2,000 miles?? You ha an analysis done I'm assuming. If so, sounds like you've got engne troubles.
