No OBDll in 97 F250HD

I need to smog my 1997 F250HD and I can't find the OBDll plug. I have looked under the dash on both sides of the center console and nothing. There is an EEC TEST plug in the engine compartment on the drivers side fenderwall at the firewall, but everyone says that in nothing. Is that an OBDl connector? Have there been some trucks that did not get the OBDll plugs installed and would the dealer put one in?

Are you SURE that thing is a 1997? The EEC connector is OBD-1. Where was that truck originally sold? Are you sure it wasn't brought in from Mexico?

I doubt that there's anything you can do to get that smogged legally in California.

EEC-IV systems (OBD-I only) were still used in some 97 HD trucks, especially if it was an OBS with one of the pre-modular or diesel engines. If it was originally sold in CA, then it should have been a OBD-II regardless. If it was a 49-state model, it probably still had the EEC-IV system.

Consult the emissions decal under the hood if it's still present. The system is specified on the label.

By 1998, all trucks were running OBD-II hardware although they were programmed for OBD-I standards for the HD trucks.

Post your VIN and someone will decode it for you.

OK, the VIN is 1FTHX25G6VEB77565

Not sure is it was a California or 49 states vehicle. It went up to Alaska a few times, may have originated there.

You'll still need to consult the emissions label under the hood for that info.

a 97 HD is not OBD 2, OBD2 wasnt untill 98 in the HD lineup when the "super duty" was released.

I think the point is - the 1997's with OBD-1 were probably not certified for California. A retrofit, if even possible, could be quite expensive. I also have my doubts that a 460 ever had OBD-2.

Thanks guys, I took it to the smog shop and showed them the OBD-1 and the transcript of this page. They called the state and confirmed that 97 F250HD was OBD-1. The truck tested fine.
