popping in 4 wheel

I noticed the other evening when I switched my 99 into 4wheel high the other day I got a popping under a light accel seemed to b coming frm front end. Only in 4wheel. I have a 99 f150 with 33inch super swamper ltb's and a 5 inch rcd lift. I don't know exactly but I didn't feel any shuddering just popping. I was just wondering if there are any thing I can buy to replace front end parts to make it stronger but don't want a sas in place of my ifs.

I'm having the same problem with my 04, trucks going to my mechanic either monday or tuesday, so when I find out I cant let ya know. From what people have told me it could either be the 4wd solenoid or the T-case.

The thing sounds like those bigger tires are making it pop when I get into the thrttle a lil bit. Imwndering if there is any aftermarket companies that make upgraded parts for front end to beef it up. I know wide open stabs at the throttle can't be good in mud but when I go I go hard.

I had this fixed on mine a couple of months ago. I can't remember the name of it. But there is a round 4 wheel drive actuator that mounts behind the hub. I replaced those and the noise went away. About $75 each It is trying to engage your 4 wheel drive even you may not be asking for it.

Unfortunately your front axle uses a different method to engage 4x4. The 04+ uses IWE ( Independent Wheel Ends) and yours uses a front axle disconnect system. The popping could be caused by binding and release of the drive train. Are you using 4x4on a hard surface? Are all your suspension parts tight. Steering linkage?

agree with Trombly, exactly the same thing with my truck, plus the vacuum control solenoid.... about a 175 dollar fix if you do the labor! and takes about 1.5 hours of your time!

Does it feel like the 4x4 is disengaging when the popping occurs?

Replacement axles arn't too bad. less than $100
