99 Intake on 02 5.4?

Well I am replacing the intake on my truck since the plastic is cracked on one of the runners. I have a friend that has a metal intake off a 99 with a 5.4. Since the 99's had PI heads I assume this intake will fit on my 02 with no issues? Just looking to put a stronger intake on it since I'm running a procharger setup.

I'm pretty sure only the late 99's had PI heads. Also mines a Dec of 99 build date, but considered a 2000 and I have the plastic intake as well. So I'm not entirely sure the metal intake manifold was available for PI heads.

If there is a metal intake manifold for PI heads, I can't see why there would be an issue mounting it to another PI motor. Just take a look at the intake ports. If they match then you should be good.

almost all 99 5.4's had pi heads. there may have been a few npi's early in 99 but i've never heard of one in a 99 yet. the aluminum intake will work just fine.

The aluminum intakes have a much different gasket under the throttle body.

I have both intakes in a '99 and '01 and '02. Went to clean the TB and had to get different gaskets. The plastic one uses a rubber band type while the aluminum uses traditional.

Yeah I figured that, thanks for the heads up though.

There were zero 99 f150's with npi heads. The left over 5.4's with the npi heads were used in the superduties till they were all used up

99 F250's w/5.4's didn't have PI heads, just the 1/2 tons. That's all you have to worry about when looking for used heads and engines.

Neither did the E models.
