i have 2 10" pioneer premier shallow mount subs that i just built a box for and im wondering what amp to get. im pretty sure this is the info on the subs'

thanks and im only trying to spend about a hundred bucks so it doesnt matter to me if the sub is used im just limited on money but want something thatll sound better than what i have

 

e bay... i ran those subs off a 500/1 jl.. they arent bad at all. another member here purchased them from me and liked them.

 

So a 500 watt class d mono block would work for both of them?

 

Something to remember that I've run into countless times in 10+ years of USAC/IASCA type competitions...

All wattage is not the same. If you buy a 500 watt amp (Mono or otherwise) from a known manufacturer like JL, Rockford, Kicker, etc your chances of getting at least that 500 watts or more is very good.

What I haven't figured out in all those years is the guys (kids mostly) who brag about having a 1600 watt amp, that in all reality couldn't generate that kind of true wattage in a lightning storm.

Things to check is where the amp is rated for that power (at what frequency, THD, voltage, etc).

Most big name amps are measured at relatively low voltage, and any F150 worth its salt will give you at least 14 volts at the amp, so that always helps.

I have 2 MTX 10's running off an old RF 700S that had a birth certificate of 931 watts at 2ohms/14.1 volts, and I can attest that they are getting every ounce of that. Bought it on Ebay for $107 shipped (had to get it to match my other dinosaur RF amp running the front end...haha)

 

I agree. I find it funny when kids go boasting about their 1600 watt Boss or Power Acoustik amp, then i show them the 60Amps of fuse on their amp and explain how the laws of physics show that amp can only produce a little over half of their rated power continuously. They are dumbfounded and its quite hilarious.

I wouldn't call the newer lines from RF, Kicker Hifonics etc high quality. They made good stuff back in the early days of mobile audio but they produce a lot of garbage nowadays with the direction of the industry.

 

haha well exactly i dont want to be one of those kids. well first of all i dont go bragging about it bc i dont like a ton of bass and i dont know much about audio stuff. thats why i wanted to ask the experts what i should look for in an amp. such as watts and everything

 

another reminder for those speakers would be that they soak up the juice. it takes a bit to get them going..

 

Well I recommend you save up for a bit because 100 bucks is not going to get you a quality amplifier.

My kicker z750 Amp Blew again today for the second time, funny thing is I just got it back from repairs from them only a month ago, whats a good amp to replace it with? ps I got two 10 in cvx subs

 

I'm no pro but I can tell you that I'm a fan of Alpine when it comes to there amps simply b/c I haven't had any issues with them, knock on wood. Are there amps better than Alpine? Of course but I can only speak for what I know.

 

Something is wrong. Amps dont just fail like that. You have something wired wrong, your impedance load is wrong, or your sensitivity is set improperly.

And yes pmason there are amps out there that are far better than Alpines, but they typically cost a lot more. As far as performance for price, Alpine makes quality amplifiers.

 

I shipped the amp back to kicker for the 2nd time again yesterday I'm not sure why the amp keeps frying I only have the gain set half way, could it be the way the subs are wired? I have 2 10's bridged to the amp.

 

What resistance are the subwoofers voice coils? If they are dual 2 ohm each and you wired parallel twice then your amp is seeing .5 ohm load which will certainly do damage (some particular amps can handle it but I doubt that Kicker one can run that little resistance safely).
