2002 F150 4.6L AT - automatic to manual trani conversion

2002 F150 XLT 2WD long bed (has approx 25,000 miles - don't want to get rid of it) - it has an auto transmission. I want a manual. Trying to find conversion parts (no luck in the Seattle, WA area finding donor vehicles - junkyards etc.). Does anyone know of a company that sells a kit? The truck is just a driver - stock 4.6L with nothing more than a filter and catback exhaust. I just want the manual transmission. Has anyone else done the conversion? Lessons learned?

go to a junkyard find an f150 with a manual tranny, get the trans, clutch master cylinder, and peddles, and go from there. i don't know for sure, but you shouldn't need any computer modifications.

You will have to use a transmission out of another 4.6 2wd truck - a 4.2 trans or a 4x4 trans won't bolt up.

you will need to retune the PCM for a manual trans. otherwise it will freak out and try to shift the truck and it wont be happy.

My buddy had a shop do the swap on his 2000 Camaro SS from A4 to M6 and it wasnt the same after that, its a lot of work but it is doable

I'm sure you know that the tow rating will drop with a manual. If you never plan to tow, it won't matter.

Starting at the engine crankshaft. You will need a pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch kit, slave cylinder, 1999 + manual transmission with shift lever, driveshaft, pedals from any manual 1997-2003 F-150 and the complete hydraulic system which includes the clutch reservoir, master cylinder and hoses. There should be a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder. It is most likely covered by a plug. You will need to cut a hole in the floor of the cab to accommodate the shift lever. I am not sure if the floor has an indentation where the hole should be if not I can measure mine for you. Most scrap yard trannies come with the shift lever and boot included. If not ask for them. A manual transmission harness will be required. You will also need a tune to turn off the automatic transmission functions. Budget for around $2000.00 and using bone yard parts you should have some coin left.
