F150online a slow site?

I typically see speeds of between 10 Mb/s – 14 Mb/s down, around 7 – 10 up. Standard Comcast cable. This through a Mac Pro quad core Intel with 8 gigs of memory. Been using Firefox ever since it came out.

Yet this site is consistently, and by far the slowest loading that I visit on any regular basis.

Anybody else see the same? Not a big failure of any kind, but annoying to say the least.

Yup... check under questions about the site... it's been an ongoing issue and RP is doing his best to notify those that can fix it. He seems to be having trouble getting them to listen it sounds like, but don't worry, it is a known issue

It seems whatever server they are using either has a slow server in terms of hardware such as the processor and ram. That, or a crappy server as far as software that cant handle server loads, multi-threads, multi-socket connections. Maybe, a slow back-bone.

Could be a little of all.

I think they need to map this site over a few servers seeing as it gets a ton of hits. Also known as load balancing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_ba...28computing%29

I think the webmaster or whoever is in control of this needs to look it up.

Basically its like a train. You could pull it with one Locomotive and it may work, but struggles. Or.. you could add another Locomotive and not struggle. However there's an increase in operation costs.

So really it's a need vs. operation costs.

I'm guessing they can't fund a new server.

But yeah. I've had pages not load at all. Half way load, load partial information, any and all.

Yea, this is by far the slowest I've ever been to. That's pretty sad. It didn't use to be that way.

Who ever owns it now could care less about the problem obviously.

Yea, their getting what they want at our expense. I guess that makes us the fools here ?

All we want is the speed other sites manage. Normalcy.

Haven't looked at it that way

Guess I should keep quiet before we get another "Flash" advertisment shoved down our throat.

I do understand that IB has their own server farm for all their sites. I'm not convinced that it's a bandwidth issue, because when you go to a thread that has a lot of pics, they seem to load fairly quickly. I think it's a vBulletin or MySQL or Apache issue.

To say that we don't care is a gross overstatement.

We do care, these problems are not consistent. I have yet to see these slow pages loads, but I am not denying they're occurring.

We suspect that one of our DB tables may be corrupted, and it's locking up the server every time it's accessed.

We will be doing some deep scans today to try and isolate the problem once and for all.

You all have to realize that we've got about 100 forums just like this one, some are much larger, some are smaller, but the bottom line is that we can only work on so many things at once, intermittent slow downs while important, don't make it to the top of the list when other sites are dealing with full on DB crashes etc. At least f150 has been accessible, if a bit slow for some members.

Regardless, hopefully by day's end, we'll have a handle on the problem, and a solution will be implemented.

We (here at my work) have DB issues and the issues are 95% of the time pointing to locked tables that should not be locked. Some tables should be readable but not lockable by "one user clicking on something".

Just a suggestion.......... (because I am not sure what 'type' of DB y'all are using)

I, too, have had issues with this site and various forums within the site. Several times. I access this site my blackberry, iPod, laptop (via wireless or aircard), desktop or from a server and have seen the same issues.....

All the DBs are mySQL.
