how to hook up to dash lights!??!?! help please

hey i am trying to install some stuff on my truck and wanted to install a switch to the dash lights so that it would light when the dash lights come on but i have no idea what to hook it up too. can anyone help?

radio harness maybe?

I'm not positive this will work for what you want to hook up but there is an illumination wire on the wiring harness going to the radio. You may be able to tap into it to hook up what you want to correlate with the factory dash lighting. Just an idea.

i have a on board compressor that i have hooked up mostly and i am wanting to hook up the control to my lights because it has a light that i can hook up. it said to hook it up to a dash light.
i have taken apart the dash and have 4 free wires not hooked up a black, green, blue and brown one. can i use one of those?

are you just talking about a lighted switch for your compressor? like a light turns on when the switch is on and then off when the switch is off?

its a control inside the truck that says the air pressure and has a switch that increases or decreases pressure. and it has a light that lights up the back ground.. i am wanting to hook that up

in that case id use the illumination wire from the back of the radio. should get you what you want. i think its the blue wire but dont quote me on that

Your gonna have to take the radio out to get to it.

also do you know what fuse i can plug the compressor into? does it matter?

Don't know what those wires would be. It would probably be easiest to run an inline fuse and a relay

Inline fuses you can get at any autozone or radio shack and you can pick the size fuse needed.
