Shipping a Leer 700 tonneau
Shipping a Leer 700 tonneau
I found a decent deal on a used Leer 700 tonneau. It is already painted Arizona Beige to match my KR
which makes it even better. However I am unsure of how to get it shipped from Ohio to myself in Texas.
Any advice? I am mostly concerned about the boxing/packaging. I know UPS does Freight service but does that have to be boxed and dropped off at one of their locations?
Thanks,

Thanks,
You had better have found an unbelievable (nearly free) deal. The shipping for the cover will be around $300 and whoever has it to ensure no damage will have to come up with a cardboard box big enough to hold it and then inside the box styrofoam pieces to keep the box from crushing and any damage happening, but first they will have to build a wood shipping frame and attach the bedrails to that. Another option would be for them to build a wood frame around the cover and then cardboard over that to completely conceal the cover. Nothing that is exposed can be expected to not be damaged in some way. So you will be looking at close to $400+ to have it shipped. You should be able to find a new cover at a dealer close to you for around $1000.
When the leer Tops come to the dealer they are usually shipped in a wood skid structure that keeps the edges off the ground, that would be my biggest worry, getting it without having all the edges chipped. They are also usually shipped buy there own fleet of trucks, more care is taken. If you are getting it shipped some other way, it is almost certainly going to need a paint job by the time you recieve it.
Call around to some freight companies and get quotes. Better yet go online for quotes.
As far as weight I recently had 400 pounds of dead weight (blast media)come on a freight truck from Tulsa, OK. $57.00 freight cost. When they ship tires from Tirerack.com it is around $100.00-$175.00 for 4 tires. NOT as high as you would think. Freight costs are back to getting competitive again.
