Need to repair A/C

Haven't posted in a while because of many reasons, but....
My question is, to try and save as much money as I can,
Would it be unwise to go to an independent A/C repair shop
instead of the dealer to have the A/C in my truck fixed?
Would I be paying out my arse at the dealer? I'm pretty
sure it has a leak because ever since I bought it, it didn't
seem to hold a charge. I have tried recharging it myself, but
it doesn't last. I also have noticed that when it was blowing
cold, it would start blowing warm for a few seconds then
back to cold again. I have come to the conclusion that it needs
to have a pro check it out and perform any needed repairs.
Thanks for your help.
