I was curious about the same thing. I finally started messing with custom tuning the canned tunes on mine and on level 3 I got over 20 mpg's today on the way to work. I do have oversized wheels/tires and finally did the math to correct the speedo and such. I do drive like an old lady, but that seemed a little high still. The trip was around 35 miles, I will leave it that way for a tank or two and see if it goes down to prove your theory.
