This product looks very cool, but before I'd drop $1,100 on it, I'd want some first hand comments on it.

 

My opinion:

It's an OK cover. The biggest negative is that the vinyl fades badly, so you would really need keep some sort of "Armoral" stuff on it to protect it from the sun. Also, the cover/rails are more sensitive than usual, meaning that if the rails get out of alignment a bit, the cover could pop open. So, check the clamps and alignment periodically.

 

My dad has had one on his Dodge Ram since Jan of 1995 and loves it. It works a little more rough in its old age, but still delivers. He actually drove over to Pompano to have the Roll-n-lock people put it on because most people in our town had never installed one before and he wanted it done right. Not cheap, but worth it is you have stuff to protect. His was all before they put a leather type cover on it, all aluminum, which has begun to fade in the past couple of years on the cover of the box that holds it when rolled up.

 

Boss man has one on his 2004 Dodge Hemi. I don't like it. Takes up too much room in the bed. Hard to roll up and down. Truck is kept outside all the time. Haven't noticed much fading in the black, but the black paint/powdercoat is peeling/chipping off bad. Luckily, it is nice and shiny underneath, so it matches the chrome on the truck.

 

I did the research and spent just a bit more for Truck Covers USA's American Roll Cover. Powder coated aluminum slats with a maximum capacity of 500 lbs, although the paperwork you get says 300...

If you go to AutoAnything.com's site they run sales all the time. I got the cover for %15 off. I've also noticed that if you go to their site and put something into the shopping cart and leave they tend to send you a targeted sale email specifically about that item.

I'd register with their site and add whichever cover you decide to buy to your shopping cart on a couple of different days and exit the site. See if you get a 'come finish your shopping' sale email. It's worked for me on other items.

 

You should also check with local vendors. Sometimes you can save some money. There are advantages and disadvantages of online dealers. Again, do your homework and check online prices AND local prices.

 

I've had my Roll-n-lock put on when I got the 03 new.It's starting to show it's age now.It's been a good cover and I would buy again.It's been a handly cover for hauling stuff with the tailgate up or down and not blowing out.All covers have good and bad points.

 

I had one on my 03 when I bought it late September 2007. I loved the way it looked and mine worked well but I have no idea when the first owner stuck it on there. I ended up taking it off because of the 1' of box space it takes up at the cab. It was the difference of putting my quad in with the tailgate up or down. I sold it for $100 just to get it out of the garage.

If I was going to get another one I would go with the Peragon cover. My brother has one on his Chevy and it is the coolest thing I have seen and for $599 bucks it is almost half the price of the Roll and Lock.

Your brother may have had some luck with the Peragon, but if you Google search, you won't find ONE SINGLE PERSON who is happy with the cover.

Paragon sells direct only, probably because no retailers would sell it.

My brother has had his for 3 years now and the only issue is that it does leak a little but so did my roll and lock.

 

I used to have a Roll-n-Lock on my old 2002 Sport Trac. Great concept, but did not like the quality of it. After 2 years, the vinyl top was really starting to fade, it seemed to rattle alot (since the rear window rolled down on the Sport Trac, I could really hear the cover rattle with every bump in the road), and of course it leaked water in near the tailgate just like any other rolling cover. I would not recommend them.

But I would recommend Bakflip. I'm sold on them now, I have their HD folding cover. Looks cool since it sits flush, it's pretty much weather resistant and it folds easily out of the way when you need to haul large items. Email me if you're further interested on where to get one cheap, and they also have a rolling cover too.

 

I have a Roll bak
It is a cheaper version, and IMO it is better.
It looks brand new and I have had it for a year and a half.
Also it was only like $800

 

I looked at the roll n lock but I went with a retrax. same price but I think it is a better cover.

 

Ive had the roll N lock on two of my trucks, and my dad had it on one of his. I think they work great and i feel safe leaving all of my tools and equipment in the back locked up. I also think they look a lot better than most covers because of the low profile look...the box really doesnt take up that much room once you see it in there (i have a 5.5 bed) and there is space under it for smaller things. Id recomend it to anyone! good luck
