Nice post Henry, but this kind of write up has already been done about 20 times already. Some even have pictures. Glad the install worked out for you. I'm surprised to hear the mounting bolt on the back of your factory head unit was soldered in though, as mine was an 05, and it was just screwed in. When I upgraded to an alpine, all I had to do was unscrew it from the stock HU, and move it to the new radio. Saved me from having to install a restraining strap behind it, which can be a pain.
As for the reason the demo keeps coming on after you've switched off the unit, sounds like the accessory wire might be loose. Check the connections on the harness.
