Personally, I went the Alpine IXA-W404 route, as nothing sounds as good as an Alpine deck. I'm installing mine tomorrow, so I'll post photos as soon as it's done just to give you an idea how it turned out. I feel the same way about retaining the stock look as you do, but I'd rather not spend a grand on the head unit alone.
