Angry MUST READ Change Fuel Filter 2005 Expedition

Here is some MUST READ if you are going to change the fuel filter on a 2005 Expedition 5.4 E.B. 4wdr. I purchased a WIX filter that came with two white nylon gas line filter retainer clips. (THEY ARE NOT MADE FOR THIS EXPEDITION) The fuel filter is located in front of and at the top of the gas tank on the driver side.
REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FROM THE BATTERY
There are two metric nuts holding a metal guard that hides the filter. Remove the two nuts and guard will come off showing the filter.
(Take note of arrow on filter and replace new one in the same direction)
Remove fuel line from engine end of filter (end toward transmission) with line removal tool.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRY THE SMALL BLUE CLIP OUT OF THE THE OTHER END of the filter (like I did) This is a new style clip that is supposed to be a press to remove fuel line clip and remains in the fitting. I tried prying the blue clip and destroyed it. Guess what!!!! The auto parts stores do not have replacements. Worse then that!!!! FORD does not supply them either. To get a new little plastic clip FORD makes you buy a new gas line with the the clip in it. DON'T THAT SUCK!!!!
That line from the filter to the gas tank cost about $75.00 LIST price.
SO!!!! here is a fix that I will not be liable for. Remove the rest of the little blue special NOT AVAILABLE FORD CLIP and take one of the clips that came with the filter and file the front side down to the same thickness as the "little blue clip" and it will insert in the slot on the fuel fitting and will clip on the fuel line to hold it in place. As a precaution take a wrap of tape to retain the clip. This fix is until your new gas line arrives. I have trip that must be made and Ford can not supply the fuel line for 2 days. Hope this will help someone else from making the same mistake. Happy Motoring!!!!

that blue clip is real bugger

search the 04-08 F-150 forums. There is an excellent Tech Article describing step by step how to properly remove the filter without breaking that clip

you also need a A/C Compression (Gas line) fitting...5/8" I believe

Question Fuel line Clip 2005 Expedition Photo

The thread in the Tech. Articles on changing a fuel filter mentions a blue clip but that is all. That article is on a F-150 and is not the same as the Expedition. Thanks for the heads up.
Here is a photo of the fuel line clip in my 2005 Expedition E.B. 4WDR that Ford does not sell separate. I hear that you just push on it to remove the fuel filter. NOT SURE I didn't have that info when I tried to pry it out. These parts are placed together for reference. The two pieces at the top of the clip are normally parallel to the small tab at the top of the clip and are broke off. I think I can hear all the Ford mechanics laughing but what the hell, I tried. Maybe some one who knows the correct operation of this device will add it to this thread.

The 05 5.4 fuel filter is different than that of the 03 4.6 filter?

Is this what your looks like? All I did was squeeze each clip with my fingers, and it came out, IIRC.
