I am looking into buying the Bakflip G2 or the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite. I have read reviews where the owners of both like thier purchases. But it seems most of the time the owner has only had thier cover only a few weeks at most. I would like to know how these hold up over time. I was hoping to hear some reviews from owners who have had these a year or longer, though all reviews are welcome. I just purchased a new crew cab and I want a cover that will last a few years.

I have a LS Series Fold-a-Cover on my 06. I called the original owner before after buying the truck from a dealership. He had the bed rug and cover put on right after he bought the truck new. I've owned the truck since Nov of 08. No problems with leakage or fading or anything with the cover so far. Mine has two locks. One on the front panel and one on the rear panel. You can fold it either way in 4 folds and then stack. I can fold it fowards and fit my sons YZ85 front tire under it while stacked without having to remove the cover completely. Love the cover and bed rug so far. In fact, we are planning on sleeping in it Sat night at an out of town race.

 

I have a Bakflip G2 and while I have only had it for about 6 months I figured that I would give you some feedback. I personally love it; I have had no problem at all with leaking, it is low profile and looks great. I have a locking tailgate so it keeps everything perfectly secure. install couldnt be any easier. hope this helps, i would highly recommend it!

 

My self-installed G4 Elite has been on my 05 for over a yr and still going strong. My new 08 got a G4 Elite as well but has only been on for about 6 months. I highly recommend the Elite but honestly it's really hard to see anything go wrong with them since there isn't much to them. Seals are still good and all my vehicles sit outside every day. I drove from TX to VA which took about 3 easy days and on one of those days it rained for 12hrs+, so much so that I was using the GPS to see where the road turned. It leaked a little on the sides but nothing got soaked. Unless you get a once piece fiberglass cover than you're bound to have some leaks. Of course my stepdad has a fiberglass cover and it leaks also. Install for the Elite took about half a day with a 6-pack. I would do it yourself, it only takes two people and basic tools.

 

My concern is that doing research I have found some comments about the bakflip leaking after a while. That seems to be the older model more so than the G2. I do not need it water proof but I don't want to have a lot of water either. Also I have seen some issues like the following which has me concerned.

The bakflip seems to fit my needs a little better in that it folds all the way against the cab which will help me on my deer lease but if the fold-a-cover is longer lasting and better quality, I prefer that over the convience of the bakflip. Thanks for everyone's input, it is appreciated.

 

I've had the G2 since last December so no long term test results. I like it. In a torrential down pour it will get a little wet but nothing serious. I like the low profile design and the ease of installation.

 

had my g2 for almost a year and it just went through a very tough new england winter. no leaks and looks great. i would buy one without hesitation again

 

I have had my G2 cover for approx. 5 months so far and have NO problems whatsoever, I love the thing. Been in the freezing rain,snow and heat in that time frame and so far so good. highly recommend. Good luck

 

I also had my G2 for less than a year and I don't know how I lived without it for so long. One of its uses is when it's my turn to drive the foursome to the golf course. Previously, we had to move the bags (sometimes wet and muddy) from the bed to the inside of the cab when we stopped at a restaurant but now I just lock 'em in the bed covered with the G2.
It is an awesome product: great quality, fit and finish. As for leaks, nothing I have noticed however I am sure some water does get in, albeit not much. Some on here have installed LED lighting in their bed, but I just bought two LED dot-lights and they light the inside of the bed well enough to do what I gotta do.
Finally for added security, keep the tailgate locked or do what I did: install auto door lock poppers, so it locks/unlocks with your keyfob.

 

It looks like quality is good for either the Bakflip G2 or the Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite. That is great to hear. It sounds as though personal preference will be the key factor in making the decision. That is the way it should be. Many thanks to all - LouScrew

I got the new Bakflip HD, it's a really nice cover, only had it for 1.5 months though.

The old G1 cover had those problems, but everything is good now.

I've made the same post multiple times so I'll keep it short - I've had a BacFlip G2 on my 06 Lariat for about 15 months now and love it. Like earlier post said, with a locking tailgate everything is secure, it is highly adaptable to whatever load i choose to carry in that i can open up access to the bed only as much as necessary. It even works with my Roush spoiler. It is easily removed yet I've driving highway speed across country with it folded against the back glass and a golf cart in the bed with no problem. I've had absolutely NO Problems with it.

When and if it wears out, I'll go for the HD aluminum version.

 

i ve had my backflip (the original one ) for about 2 years now.

overall i love but , but i had some trouble installing it with the factory bed-liner, and the panels faded a bit , but i fixed that with some of the roll on bed liner lol. also a few of the rubber seals' glue started coming off, but nothing a little gorilla glue cant fix lol

 

i own a bakflip G2 since about December 07, it looks great but has been a total piece of garbage. the latches are cheap plastic and wear out fast. I don't abuse it nor do i open it often. also it is advertised that you can walk on it...while washing my trucks roof i stuck to the sides for added support and it broke in. i need to put new rivets in it. It leaks more than i would think would be ok. All in all i wish i didnt get it.

 

i wouldnt trust the advertisement showing that you can walk on it; as much as i like the cover you can tell that it isnt going to hold the weight of anyone unless maybe its a kid but i still wouldnt let anyone stand on my cover
