bearing noise

I have a 98 4.6L with the M5od. Occasionally on startup, probably about 60-70% of the time I get a very loud screeching noise from under the truck that lasts 3-4 seconds. It is definitely the sound a bad bearing would make. I have narrowed it down to coming from inside the bell housing. I think it is probably the throw out bearing gone bad. I haven't noticed any driveability issues.

Before I take the trans out to replace everything, I figured I'd get another opinion on what could be causing this noise, if anything. Since it is 4x4, pulling the trans is no easy task, and I'm not going to pay for it to be done.

Another question I have. If I let this go too much longer, do I risk any other problems? I know the input shaft is weak on these transmissions. Could the bad bearing cause problems with that?

When I finally end up doing this, I plan to replace everything (throwout/pilot bearing, slave cylinder, clutch/pressure plate and flywheel) but I will need some time to gather the parts as funds allow. I don't want to pull everything apart to replace the bearing then have to do it all over again to do everything else.
