CSK (Kragen) Long Blocks
CSK (Kragen) Long Blocks
I am considering ordering a new long block through Kragen for the 1986 5.0FI Bronco. I have seen good and bad things elsewhere on the internet. I am curious on anyone's opinions here on them. I'm not really looking to rebuild the engine in it as I have no idea what is f'ed up inside of it and what it would require (how much $$$) to fix it. The thought of getting one from pick-n-pull was an option, but that is a toss up as well as I may have a good engine for a month and then I could be in the same spot I am now with NO money to fix it. I am looking at a long block too as it would probably be the quickest way to get it back on the road as well.
I am looking to spend about $800 at most on a long block shipped to my house or wherever is close to pick it up. If anyone knows a better place than CSK to get a reman/new longblock for that price, I'd be interested in hearing it.
Many thanks in advance.

it doesn't matter about the warranty 'cause CSK will not honor any kind of warranty
I purchased a 390 long block from SCK a few years ago, needless to say it didn't work, they refused to warranty it because I had started the engine...
it came to me with a 352 rod, 6 390 rods and 1 428 rod, I will never do any business with CSK for anything even though I think it was a jasper engine but either way I paid for a warranty 36 month/36,000 mile and got nothing for it but a hassle

The warranty for a long block as far as I know is 12mo/Unlimited Miles (at least on the website of the co. that makes the blocks for CSK).
tarajerame- that is the bad that I have heard. Wrong parts, difficulties with the warranty, etc...

I wouldnt go there. My brother inlaw Bought one for his old Chevy and he had to take it back and they did honor the warranty and all but still you never know what your going to get from them. Find a small machine shop and have the rebuild the old one. Lots of hungry shops right now. Pobably wouldnt cost you any more..
Anything from history may now be overtaken by events. The O'Reilly chain has recently bought out the CSK chain so I'm sure going forward that the O'Reilly corporate policies will dominate. The CSK stores will gradually be re-branded as O'Reilly.

Found out the long blocks no longer come from 5 Star Auto in AZ. They have switched to Evergreen and VEGE for suppliers. The particular one I am looking at is made by VEGE. They seem to be a very legit company unlike the previous. ISO certified, etc.

Just to update this: I know someone who has had to remove and replace his "CSK"/"O'Reilly" engine 3 or 4 times before they finally figured out they gave him the wrong oil pump. They kept replacing things that were not the problem, and then tried sticking him with it. It is very recent as well, so these are the new places they are getting the engines from. I never ended up buying one. Just going to stick with a full rebuild, new cams, etc...
