I did the same thing to my 07 before I installed my turbo. I dont know about the MPG, or HP losses, but it was WAY too loud. I had a magnaflow strait through muffler too. I would get head aches driving to work and on road trips. It WAS fun to be on the high way with some one right next to you with their window down and just mash it, but other than that I dont think it was worth it. It looked really good, just too dang loud.

yeah, i got headaches when mine was straighpiped... granted I just unbolted the stock muffler and left it. I went down to I think like 10 mpg city... but I had no backpressure, which is basically all you need to keep the mpgs and power. I put a flowmaster 50 series SIDO at 45 degrees out the back. If you run the pipes out the back I believe you would get more backpressure that was, b/c of more piping.

yes the cats provide plenty. taking the muffler off is not gonna make a noticeable difference in mpg or hp. the reason most people see a drop in mpg is cause they cant keep their foot out of it because of the new sound.

I have my muffler hacked out and exiting lightning style also. The sound is really personal preference. It is VERY loud, but I personally love it. Never gets old, dont bother me, and I love the drone. On the other hand, my mom hates it.

im not a fan of the sound, its very easy to obtain on an old car too you just wait for the muffler to rot out. thats all i think about when i hear it. To each his own but i like it loud but i like it to have a nice tone to it too. you lose all nice tone when you have it hacked off in my opinion.

I think straight pipes sound like crap also. Reminds me of an old rusted out POS. Makes me think of the equivalent of a honda civic with a huge coffee can muffler on it. Lots of noise, no performance.
Plus you will lose low end torque by losing a lot of back pressure. And you're going to annoy the **** out of everyone who has to listen to the truck. Stuff like this is the reason why more and more places are requiring vehicle inspections.
Have a system put together with a decent sounding muffler and call it good.

Personally I know more people who love the sound of my truck than hate it. But to each their own. Some people like fart cans on honda's, some like magnaflow, some think their chit dont stink. It makes the world go round.

to each his own... Take into consideration you won't have that "performance tuned" sound. And at low speed when you punch the gas, it will sound like bullets shooting off... My buddy has true dual straight pipes running straight out the back on his '03 5.4.... it sounds nice when he cranks it, but like I said, when he takes off it sounds like a loud pop gun. On the other hand, another guy that has an '08 or '07 5.4 on campus is straightpiped and sounds NICE when hes cruising.
