Transmission questions for an 05 F150
I want to change the transmission fluid on my 2005 5.4L this weekend. I plan to drop the pan, change the filter, and use this guide to flush the fluid. It's my first time changing ATF, but I do all of my other maintenance and don't think it will be a big deal. However, I have the following questions.
1. What transmission do I have and how many quarts of ATF does it hold? I believe it's the 4R75E, but there's nothing I've found on the door or under the hood to confirm.
2. Is it worth it to switch to AMSOIL? I do very little towing, mostly city driving. My gut says that at 2 to 3 times the price, it's not worth it.
3. If I don't switch to AMSOIL, do I go with MERCON or MERCON V?
Yes I know this has all been talked about, but when I searched, I got a lot of conflicting results. Thanks.

On the data tag in the driver's door opening there is a TR. Under that is a letter. As I remember B means 4R75E, which is what I believe is in your truck.
I don't remember the complete fill for that, I think it should take about 15-16 quarts to do the flush.
You'll also find that the cooler lines are one above the other, not front and rear. Someone should be along shortly that knows which one is in and which one is out. I don't know.
Use MERCON V, do NOT use MERCON. I'm not a fan of Amsoil. I like Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. Any fluid that is MERCON V rated will be fine.
