Hey guys, I just want to say that I am new to the forum and think this is a great place. I am having issues with my 06 f150 4.6L with 30K miles. It has an extremely rough idle when stopped in drive and also vibrates when slowing down to at about 5-7mph. I have read all the threads and seen similar issues but they are trucks with 100K+ miles on them. I took it to the dealer and they said there is nothing wrong with it , im sure they just checked the ECU (I didnt do a ride along), but I was wondering if you guys have any advice. thanks again for your help.

My 06 4.6l has a rough idle too. Its got about 46,--- when I took it to the dealership they said there wasn't really anything wrong but that it might be "over-rotation" of the crank

 

So there is nothing that can be done? could it be the harmonic balancer? or is that in older trucks

 

I dont think there is because I have took it in just for the rough idle several times and they all give me the same answers..?? I guess these trucks are just commonly known for that..

 

Wow thats very interesting. Anyone else have issues like this? Any ideas on how to at least decrease the vibration a little?

 

Find another dealer. They are trying to blow you off. That's not normal.

 

i have a 2006 4.6 and i have the same problem. Its certified and i took it in, it only has 26,000 and they said there is nothing wrong and they couldnt do anything. I think its bull**** and if all our trucks have the same problem, something needs to be done.

 

It probably just needs a PCM flash and the dealer is too lazy to do it.

 

Arlight, I am going to bring it in again on saturday. I know they are trying to blow me off unitl my factory warranty expires 06' expires this year but what those guys will realise is that I have a certified pre-owned additional warrenty that goes till 2012. The greatest quote ever from a service guy, "If I cant find something to fix, Ford doesnt pay me so we looked everywhere". What happened to the good old fashion mechanic who would get under the truck and look, now all it takes is a monkey to read the codes. sorry for venting but this is frustrating.

 

would the power pup programmer effect the idle much?

 

As far as my truck it is Bone Stock. its the F150 Chrome Edition.

 

when the prog. is off of mine it still has a rough unsteady idle... no aftermarket cam either

 

I'm guessing but...

Carbon buildup in the intakes, IAC, egr valve or perhaps on the plugs. Perhaps the PCV is sticking but that typically shows signs of burning oil.

 

check the co2 sensors, thats what was wrong with mine,all of our company trucks had to have the catelytic converters changed in them because they were all plugged up at about 40,000 kms. also injectors, or spark plugs too, there is alot of little things that can go wrong with these trucks that will make them run rough. pop off your plug wires and see if they are coroded up at all because with a bad connection you wont get a full spark if any at all. changeyour fuel filter, bad bunch of gas could have caused it to plug up.
