i have a 1997 f150, i am slightly confused what rear ends are on the 97-03 trucks. 8, 8.8, or 10.25. and how do i know which my truck has?

 

What motor do you have? 4.2, 4.6, 5.4?

you have an 8.8, the 5.4 has a 9.75

 

What about an 06 f-150 5.4l 4X4

 

All 5.4's will have the 9.75" rear end. All 4.6's and lower will have the 8.8". The HD Payload package F150's, the old '7700' and the old LD F250 get the 10.25".

Another easy way to tell is look at the cover and count the bolts.. 8.8=10 bolts. 9.75/10.25=12 bolts.

Ok so I have the 8.8 Rear End in my 99 F150 with 3.55 Gear Ratio and need to replace the rear end can someone tell me what year trucks will interchange? I have found a 90 F150 with a 8.8 rear end with 3.08 gears and a 97 Explorer with a 8.8 rear end and 3.73 gears. Will either of these work? Sorry I have no clue which will work (my husband is out of town so I am trying to locate one while he is out of town so I can get his truck fixed and have it ready when he gets home) or what models to look for, Does it have to come out of an F150?
