Straight Pipes Dual Exhaust

Straight Pipes Dual Exhaust
Im thinking about taking the muffler and tail pipe off my 2004 f150 5.4L and use where the muffler connected as a y pipe and run dual exhaust out each side of the hitch with no muffler. My dads friend has an exhaust bender and he said he will do it, so it would save me so much money. And I would still be able to add a muffler later if I wanted it quieter. Has anyone done this and how do you think it will sound?

Our trucks aren't that loud with straights. If you tow a lot of fairly heavy trailers you might want to think about a muffler. I tow a 10' trailer with a atv on it all over the place and it is no problem. I got 16mpg last weekend on a trip to Ky and back. I think this is great for a V8 4X4 with over 100,000 miles on it. If I hook to the 18'er with 4 atv's I notice a lot of noise. A long trip gets a little tough on the ears with the motor tacked up. If you want the straights try it out. Like you said, if it's too much you can always add a muffler later.

Where did you find this kit? Thats exactly what Im thinking about doing. What are true duals vs y? And would a flowmaster 44 series or 50 series sound better? I want it deep sounding

Thats the Heartthrob cat-back. True duals will be louder, a real dual rumble. Y piped straights just adds you the tips on a single exhaust. I would definitely suggest the super 44, great sounding muffler, 50 series is a bit quieter but gives an incredible sound too.

My 05 4.2l has true duals with flowtech redhot glasspacks 2.5" and is louder than every 4.6l or 5.4l I've ever heard at wide open throttle but it's too loud honestly, lol. Now I want to do that to my new 08 5.4l but I think I'm just going to do a magnaflow exhuast. Of course I'm going to do headers back including hi flow cats to eliminate the back pressure which a true dual setup has a lot of especially on my 4.2l
