5.0L firing order

Question 5.0L firing order

Is the 1992 5.0L firing order "H.O", or is it unique. It matters when I choose a cam to complement my supercharger (see my other post).

the H.O. 5.0 is the one found in mustangs. nless your engine came out of a musntag, you dont have an H.O.. as far as firing orders are concerned, i dont know if theyre the same, but the order for the truck 5.0 is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. hope this helps, good luck!

The firing order for 1992 Mustang 5.0L HO is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Thanks Islandboy. I found the same thing at a dealership last night. Now, it's going to be harder than hell to find a cam for it. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

browse thru the crane cams and lunati sites. Both have a ton of cams for the non roller engines (ie not the HO stang):

The 1992 5.0 (non-HO) IS a roller cam. I found the Crane PN#364211 also known as CompuCam 2020 thanks to someone on one of my other posts. Thanks Matt90GT.

if you find a mustang cam you would prefer, you can put it in & change the firing order to correspond. the crank and pistons don't change.
the 302 in my 95 F-150 fired 13726548. The reason stated was 1 then 5 that close put too much strain on the front main bearing.

redlariet - I don't really want to change the firing order, but I'm shocked to find out that I can! How would I do that? I would have to change the crank, unless I'm missing something, becuase the pistons reach top dead center in a certain order dictated by the crank, right? The reason I'm interested is that there are hundreds of mustang cams, and like I said ONE for mine in the Crane catalog. I would like to read anything you have about changing the firing order. Thanks.

the pistons are in the same position with either firing order--ie, 3 and 5 are next up after 1, on the truck 5 is on compression and 3 is on exhaust. the different cam would put 5 on exhaust and 3 on compression because of when the valves open & close. the fuel injection is not sequencial in the truck so that's not a prob. hope that clears it up.
